GENERAL DENTISTRY
Here for the Dental Needs of
YOUR WHOLE
FAMILY
At Leeds Dental Clinic, we excel at rebuilding and restoring your smile. And we’re also here for the general dental needs of you and your family. Your oral health is our concern.
ROUTINE CHECKUPS
Our oral health is continually changing. Whether through genetics, environmental factors, diet, or other health concerns, problems with our teeth can develop at any stage of life. For this reason, it is always important to have thorough dental checkups regularly.
We recommend seeing us twice a year. During your routine consultation, we’ll look for early warning signs of problems with your gums, teeth, and jaws. We can then advise you on ways to improve your oral health or suggest any necessary treatments.
CAVITIES AND
FILLINGS
Dentists may constantly repeat the message that you need to brush your teeth twice a day and avoid sugar, but there’s a good reason. Tooth decay is one of the most common diseases, and it can cause devastation to your oral health.
We’ve all got bacteria in our mouths. While many of the thousands of types of bacteria are completely harmless, some cause tooth decay. When these bacteria feed on sugars and starch, they create acid. This combination creates plaque which coats the teeth. The acid then erodes your enamel causing cavities to form.
Cavities bring pain and sensitivity, and it’s important to get them treated promptly before your tooth becomes damaged further. To repair the damage caused by decay, we’ll fill the cavity using a tooth-coloured filling.
Fillings are a durable and effective way to prevent further decay. The filling procedure is routine, and there is very little downtime. Once the effects of the local anaesthetic have worn off, you’ll be able to go about your day as you normally would.
ROOT CANAL TREATMENT
Untreated dental decay will penetrate further into your teeth. What starts as acid erosion causing cavities in your enamel will permeate deep into your tooth and infect your dental pulp.
The dental pulp at your tooth’s heart comprises connective tissue and blood vessels. This pulp can be found in the pulp chamber and root canals descending deep into your jaw.
Infected dental pulp needs to be removed quickly before your tooth dies. We can carry out a root canal treatment that will remove the bacteria and infected matter from your tooth and save it.
We use highly effective evidence-informed techniques to eliminate any infected dental pulp. The treatment begins with us making a small hole in your tooth to allow access to the pulp chamber and root canals. Once inside, we’ll carefully remove the infected pulp before using a rubber-like material called a gutta-percha to plug the tooth. We’ll then close the entry hole with a tooth-coloured filling.
We may ask you to return for a later appointment where we’ll place a crown over the affected tooth. This will preserve the integrity of the tooth and prevent further damage. Not on this, but it will give it a restored natural appearance.
